Golf Carts on Public Roadways

According to Texas Transportation Code, Section 551.403, an operator of a golf cart can do so in any one of the following ways:

  1. In a master planned community that has in place a uniform set of restrictive covenants and has an approved plat from the county or municipality (Shady Hollow HOA is NOT a master planned community)  OR

  2. On a beach  OR

  3. On a public road with a speed limit of not more than 35mph AND operating only during the daytime AND not more than 2 miles from the location where the golf cart is usually parked AND is going to or from a golf course.

Unless #1 applies to your neighborhood or your golf cart has a VIN and is a regularly registered vehicle (like your car), driving a golf cart on the streets is illegal.
